We like a big bottle of wine as much as the next person. In this section you will find our selection of red, white, rosé and sparkling wines in magnum bottles, which contain twice as much as a standard 75 cl wine bottle.
The magnum is the format of choice at champagne tastings because it's felt to be the ideal size for the optimum conditioning of the wine.
For practical purposes, though, a magnum is impressive without being too ostentatious, and if you have a few people together it gives them all a chance to enjoy exactly the same wine, with only one cork to pull.
The magnums we stock are from suppliers whose wines are always in demand—the ones where there never seems to be enough in the standard bottle.
There's usually a small difference in price between two 75 cl bottles and the corresponding 150 cl magnum, because the bigger bottle and its label and so on are special items, but the extra euro or two is worth it for the sense of occasion when the big bottle makes its appearance.

Acústic Celler, Acústic red magnum, DO Montsant 2017
Regular price €50.00<> 1.5 l magnum bottle <>
Full-bodied, supple, dark-fruited red blend from the vertiginous slopes of Montsant, a DO in Cataluña that encircles the better-known and more expensive Priorat.
An inviting and invigorating fragrance of cedar, spice box, and black cherry leads on to a smooth, ripe-berried palate of considerable complexity and power. Silky tannins imbue this Samsó (Carignan) based Penedès blend with a dusty plushness that is very appealing.
Enjoy Acústic with hearty casseroles and grilled meats, or to make an impression at any gathering where good wine is called for.
Acústic produces wines from 40- to 65-year-old Samsó, the local name for Cariñena, and Garnacha. The wine offers the aromas and flavours of Priorat at a far more friendly price. The Wine Buyer's Guide
Catalonia’s Montsant DO was carved out of the Tarragona DO in 2001. This promotion came about as a result of the region's consistent ability to produce high-quality wines, and a need to establish a separate identity for its prime high-altitude vineyards. Monsant, which lies west of Tarragona, almost completely surrounds the more well-known Priorat.
Most of the prized sites within Monsant are located on elevated steep slopes, where the vines enjoy long Mediterranean sunshine during the day and cold temperatures at night, assisting in the development of aromas while maintaining vital acidity in the grapes. The soil here is a local specialty known as llicorella, which is high in granite and slate components.
Montsant has earned a reputation for its high-quality red wines in particular; especially those based on old Garnacha (Grenache) and Samsó (Carignan) vines. Tempranillo (called Ull de Llebre locally) and international varieties also do well here. A small quantity of white (Chardonnay, Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca) is produced, along with rosé and sweet wines.

Mas des Bressades, Cuvée Tradition Rouge, Costières de Nîmes magnum 2017
Regular price €40.00Supple and ripe with juicy flavours of plum jam, liquorice, Mediterranean herbs and cocoa. Medium-to-full body, with moderate acidity and light tannins. A delicious, unoaked, dining or party wine that makes a perfect match for steaks, burgers and barbecues, but has so much fruit character that it's very easy to enjoy just on its own.
The Costières de Nîmes is the Rhone’s southernmost appellation, and was previously known as the Costières du Gard before a name change in 1989. Until 2004 it was considered part of the Languedoc, but today it is included in the Rhône region, which makes sense considering the predominance of Grenache and Syrah in its red wines and the galet-strewn Châteauneuf-du-Pape-like soils on which they grow.
Robert Parker has said of the estate’s winemaker, "Young Cyril Marès crafts some well-concentrated bargains both red and white and an ambitious, flamboyant, but modestly-priced Cabernet-Syrah blend."
Costières de Nîmes was settled by veterans of Julius Caesar's campaigns in Egypt, and today's bottles of wines from the appellation bear the unlikely symbol of that time's Roman settlement - a crocodile chained to a palm tree.
“Dark red with purple highlights...steeped red fruits and spicy nose. Good volume, generous matter (full of fruits) and silky tannins in the mouth. Excellent aromatic persistence, really succulent, enjoy now!” In Vino Veritas

Château Dauzac, D de Dauzac magnum 2016

Faulty bottles
Wine is a natural product: its variety is what makes it so interesting!
Sometimes, though, a faulty bottle turns up. It's rare, but it does happen.
We want you to enjoy the wines you buy from us, and we'd like you to enjoy doing business with us too.
If you are unlucky enough to receive a bad bottle, please let us know immediately by calling the office on 021 431 6000 and we'll issue a credit in compensation.
Broken or Damaged Deliveries
Despite our best efforts to wrap and pack securely, damage in transit occurs from time to time.
If there's a breakage, our couriers will normally return the whole fragrant mess to us straight away.
If, however, the damage isn't apparent until you open the box, we'd still prefer to have the whole parcel collected. We'll send you a replacement as soon as possible.

Château Kirwan, Les Charmes de Kirwan Margaux magnum 2015
Regular price €90.00A magnum bottle of the little brother of Château Kirwan, made from the same remarkable terroir.
This is a more affordable chance to taste the famous Margaux of Château Kirwan. ‘Les Charmes’ comes from younger vines in the same vineyards as the first wine of the château, and offers a softer texture than its costly sibling, making it ready to drink and enjoy sooner: from now on, in fact.
Expect fresh and tempting aromas of cherry and redcurrant with a hint of oak. There's an agreeable liveliness on the palate that merges into a fuller, rounder sensation of fruit intensity. The creamy richness contributed by aging in oak enhances this satisfying weight well into the spicy, lingering finish.

Altanza, Crianza magnum, DO Rioja 2016
