Acústic Celler Red, DO MontsantRegular price €23.00
Full-bodied, supple, dark-fruited red blend from the vertiginous slopes of Montsant, a DO in Cataluña that encircles the better-known and more expensive Priorat.
An inviting and invigorating fragrance of cedar, spice box, and black cherry leads on to a smooth, ripe-berried palate of considerable complexity and power. Silky tannins imbue this Samsó (Carignan) based Penedès blend with a dusty plushness that is very appealing.
Enjoy Acùstic with hearty casseroles and grilled meats, or to make an impression at any gathering where good wine is called for.
Acustic produces wines from 40- to 65-year-old Samsó, the local name for Cariñena, and Garnacha. The wine offers the aromas and flavours of Priorat at a far more friendly price. The Wine Buyer's Guide
Offers up a lightly roasted bouquet of spice box, earthy minerals, tobacco, and black cherry. Sweetly-fruited, dense, layered wine that has years of ageing potential! An outstanding value proposition that will deliver prime drinking from 2012 to 2019. Wine Advocate, 91 points
Catalonia’s Montsant DO was carved out of the Tarragona DO in 2001. This promotion came about as a result of the region's consistent ability to produce high-quality wines, and a need to establish a separate identity for its prime high-altitude vineyards. Monsant, which lies west of Tarragona, almost completely surrounds the more well-known Priorat.
Most of the prized sites within Monsant are located on elevated steep slopes, where the vines enjoy long Mediterranean sunshine during the day and cold temperatures at night, assisting in the development of aromas while maintaining vital acidity in the grapes. The soil here is a local specialty known as llicorella, which is high in granite and slate components.
Montsant has earned a reputation for its high-quality red wines in particular; especially those based on old Garnacha (Grenache) and Samsó (Carignan) vines. Tempranillo (called Ull de Llebre locally) and international varieties also do well here. A small quantity of white (Chardonnay, Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca) is produced, along with rosé and sweet wines.

Acústic Celler Braó, DO MontsantRegular price €35.00
Inky-hued, perfumed red with hedonistic, opulent aromas and flavours of ripe blackberry, liquorice, prune and spiced raspberry. Earth, leather and cigar-box notes add complexity to a categorically full-bodied wine with rounded tannins and a sumptuous, neverending finish.
This is a real must-try wine from a star winemaker, and a powerful partner for full-blooded dishes such as fillet steak, hearty casseroles, or spiced sausages.
The photo below shows Acústic Celler winemaker Albert Jané getting his teeth into the distinctive llicorella soil of the Priorat and Montsant area. A mix of ancient slate and quartz, it contributes largely to the unique terroir expressed in Albert's organically produced and singingly ‘acoustic’ wines.
‘Full-bodied but deliciously smooth and opulent, with rich dark fruits, plenty of spice, and well-integrated tannins on the finish. The Acústic red is also well worth trying. With barbecued beef.’

Acústic Celler White, DO MontsantRegular price €22.00
Peachy, grapefruity, powerful (15% abv) blend fashioned from traditional, hand-selected Catalonian grapes grown in ancient vineyards on steep slopes 600m high in the DO of Montsant. Intriguing pollen and lavender notes in a complex and rewarding white wine with caramel and stone fruit character from its old vine white Grenache.
Enjoy its generous aromas and rich body with correspondingly plump, opulent flavours. It might make a great match for a caramelized onion and blue cheese tart, a creamy soup or the best seafood.
70% of the cuvée is fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the generous fruitiness of the wine. The balance is fermented in new French oak, imparting subtle, delicious richness to the finished wine

Acústic Celler Auditori DO MontsantRegular price €60.00
Old vine Garnatxa (Grenache) from three plots around the mountains of Montsant gives a full, darkly seductive and mineral wine.
This powerful red is made from pure Garnatxa fruit from vines between fifty-five and eighty years old that grow in the geologically varied but equally harsh conditions of the Marçà, Capçanes and Cornudella del Montsant plots around the Montsant mountains.
The name of the wine and the suggestion of an amphitheatre in the label design suggest that this is a wine that demands attention and contemplation—a ‘good ear’ for the resonances and harmonies of expert winemaking using what Albert calls ‘Magic Garnatxa’.
This organic wine is neither fined nor filtered after its twelve months of aging in year-old French oak, and its authentic expression of its origins in full, flavoursome poise and finesse repeatedly garners ninety or more points out of a hundred from such diverse reviewers as the Spanish Guía Peñin, France's Guide Gilbert & Gaillard and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate in the USA.
