Red wines from Beaujolais
There's a real charm about the lighter reds of the Beaujolais; and though wines made from the Gamay grape are never going to be blockbusters, they are very drinkable, companionable wines that suit a variety of foods without being overpowering.
The crus or village wines—not to be confused with the evanescent Beaujolais Nouveau—are also capable of ageing very stylishly indeed.
