Irish emergency budget and wine duty

This afternoon's Irish emergency "supplementary" budget has not increased the existing duty on alcohol, to stop business from crossing the border to Northern Ireland. Clearly, there are other good reasons too for this decision. Huge sighs of surprised relief all round in this neck of the woods.

The duty on a standard bottle of still wine remains @ €2.46.

The duty on a bottle of sparkling wine remains @ €4.92.
