Oro de Castilla is now in the hands of the third generation, and is considered a leading light of the Rueda DO. When Pablo del Villar Escudero began farming in Rueda in 1955, his crops were cereals. It was not until 1989 that the first Verdejo vines were planted on carefully selected sites, followed eventually by Sauvignon Blanc, with Tempranillo wines coming from plots in the Ribera del Duero appellation.
