The direct appeal of Cyril Marès's full-flavoured wines has made them a reference in the Costières de Nîmes, and he himself has been instrumental in promoting the winemakers of the region both in France and overseas. The appellation was formerly considered part of the Languedoc, but is now affiliated with the southern Rhône, which it resembles in terms of terroir and grape varieties grown.
