Tezza, ‘Campo di Majoli’, Veronese Rosso IGTRegular price €18.50
There's a movement to revive the rare Oseleta grape variety in its homeland of the Verona region. The renowned Masi winery has played a prominent part in this re-introduction, and the Tezza family too have chosen to use Oseleta as part of this spicy, velvety red wine. It adds a more tannic, mineral edge to the recipe than the usual Valpolicella grapes, and although only a very little of it is planted, the competitive nature of the Amarone and Ripasso market means that producers are keen to find authentic ways to differentiate their wines from those of their competitors and, in some cases, imitators.
Cabernet Sauvignon and the local Corvina make up the remaining eighty per cent of constituent grapes, so the non-regulation blend is counted as an IGT Veronese Rosso wine, though it's very like the DOC Valpolicella styles from the Tezzas in terms of rich, concentrated dark and dried fruit appeal and a smooth suppleness in the mouth.
