Quinta Dona Mafalda, Douro DOCRegular price €35.00
‘Wonderful hit of bilberry and violets on the nose leading to a chocolatey, truffley melange of black and red fruits. Tons of potential. Delicious.’
International Wine Challenge (2013 vintage)
‘With its 60% Touriga Nacional, this wine has rich, wood-aged perfumed fruit. Black plums and berries come through the tannins and spice to give a ripe character to this big-hearted wine.’
91/100 Roger Voss, Editor's Choice, Wine Enthusiast, January 2018 (2015 vintage)
Astonishing value from the schist soils of the Douro valley.
From the first, intriguing, violet-scented sniff, the sumptuous bouquet of black and red fruits, cocoa and truffle aromas promises a very special wine.
This is delicious already, with years to go: there's no need to consult the books to know when to drink it. It's a voluptuous, smooth and satisfying red that is juicy—there is acidity, beautifully judged, keeping it fresh—but also has firm, smooth tannins that suggest solid aging potential, if you feel able to resist its immediate, very gratifying, though not ostentatious charms.
A seriously well made wine that would grace any table but with plenty to offer all by itself too.
Quinta Dona Mafalda makes its wines from about seven hectares of vines in the UNESCO World Heritage classified Alto Douro region.
