Lustau, Vermut Rojo red vermouthRegular price €26.00
There is a renewed interest in sherry and related drinks, and vermouth is among the most popular of the rediscoveries.
Vermouth is a wine (or, in this case, sherry) with added botanical flavours and enhanced alcoholic strength. A balance of bitter and sweet elements helps to define the style and offers intense aromas and flavours perfect for long drinks or mixing.
Lustau's not-too-strong red vermouth is a blend of two wines individually aged in the time-honoured sherry manner. One is an Amontillado, with dry, nutty characteristics; the other a full, unctuous and sweet Pedro Ximénez.
Assertive aromas of fruit, herbs and smoke introduce a smooth, complex wine with a pleasant bitterness from the wormwood that gives the family of drinks its name. The presence of coriander and orange peel among the ingredients means that on the rocks with a slice of orange is a very easy and satisfying way to serve this newly fashionable but long-appreciated speciality.
