Granbazán Albariño Limousin DO Rías BaixasRegular price €30.00
A barrel fermented Albariño isn't a wine you get the chance to try very often, and we have only a few bottles of this—so Agro de Bazán's Limousin is definitely a treat not to be missed for fans of rich white wines.
There's a complex nose of ripe fruit, herbs, flowers, spices and smoke all vying for attention, before the full, fresh texture of the palate reveals the careful selection of fine Albariño berries, in its hints of citrus and sea breezes sustained into a long, succulent finish.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel before four months' aging in French oak, and once bottled it is suited to further aging as its flavours develop. It is an excellent dining wine alongside a variety of dishes where its texture and length can be appreciated.
The Granbazán wine project began in 1980 in the smallholdings of Galicia, in the heart of the Salnes Valley, with the aim of raising to international acclaim a wine celebrated in history and verse, but which traditional small family cellars, in spite of their skill, did not have the means or knowledge to produce to consistent, reliable levels of quality.
Rías Baixas wines are now considered among the best white wines in the world, thanks in part to the role of Agro de Bazán as a pioneer in many fields, from its investment in hiring a team of technological-oenologists, its development of the cold maceration process and its innovations with Albariño, of which the Limousin bottling is one.
