Clos Sainte Anne, Pomerol 2011Regular price €31.00
Merlot is the dominant grape in Pomerol and is responsible for this wine's rich smoothness and approachability in youth.
This fine example - unfiltered so as to retain as much character as possible - is beautifully moreish, with a luxurious spiced plum and truffles character. It's already supple and mellow, with its dark fruit character beginning to show some attractive development, so drink now or keep for just a few more years.
Pomerol, which famously has no formal system of classification for its wines, is located in the east of the Bordeaux region, near Saint-Emilion, in the area known as the Libournais.
While most appellations are named after a village or town within their boundaries, Pomerol has no such epicentre. Not one of the world’s most visually-arresting wine regions, it is an unchanging 800-hectare gravel bank, which rises and falls by only 20 metres or so.
