Château Poujeaux, AOC Moulis 2008Regular price €45.00
'The star of Moulis, as well as a perennial sleeper and best-buy qualitative pick in the Médoc, this estate continues to turn out excellent wines. Poujeaux is clearly a wine that deserves to be ranked as a fifth growth in any new classification of the Bordeaux hierarchy.'
(From 'The Wine Buyer's Guide')
The grapes are hand-picked and fermented in French oak (30-40% new). Stéphane Derenoncourt acts as oenological consultant to the estate.
In terms of the vintage, 2008 was a relatively cool, indifferent growing season in Bordeaux. But what it had going for it was a very late harvest, and this extended 'hang time' resulted in grapes that were perfectly ripe, with silky tannins, and no hint of herbacious greeness.
