Casas del Bosque, Carménère ReservaRegular price €18.00
Juicy raspberry and plum fruit combine with leafy, red pepper freshness in a medium-bodied red that has soft tannins and low acidity, making it a very versatile food match.
Carménère, a late ripening variety that benefits from the often unbroken seasonal sunshine of Chile's Central Valley, is almost the country's national grape, producing more than three quarters of the world's Carménère wines.
Its origins, however, lie in Bordeaux, where it remains a permitted but rare component variety. The plummy, herbaceous character of wines made from Carménère is very similar to the more easily grown and widespread Merlot, but favourable conditions and long experience mean that many Chilean interpretations have a distinct and appealing personality of their own.
