  • Lorenzo Pusole, Vermentino di Sardegna

Lorenzo Pusole, Vermentino di Sardegna DOC

Quick Overview

Organically produced young vine Vermentino, with concentrated, mineral aromas of pears and oranges. Dry, vegetal and with hints of fennel and a firm, persistent herbal finish, this makes an excellent and unusual match for grilled fish, risotto, or maybe a cheese board. Further Details

The young Vermentino vines for this wine are grown on granite-clay soils that retain a little moisture even at the height of summer. The north-south aspect of the vineyard protects the grapes from the fiercest hours of sunshine, and continuous working of the soil encourages the vines to go deep in search of water and bear witness to the character of the land in the aromas of the finished wine.Long life and good health with Pusole Bianco

The family-owned artisan winery Pusole in eastern Sardinia is situated in the Ogliastra region whose varied terrain stretches from beautiful seaside to mountains over 1,100 metres high.

Here, for four generations, the Pusole family has cultivated its land, producing wine, corn and olive oil, in addition to breeding razza sarda, a local species of semi-wild pigs. Today the family business is run by siblings Loredana, Lorenzo and Roberto. In their vineyards they cultivate only Cannonau and Vermentino, traditional varieties from the region, using traditional and natural farming methods, with no use of herbicides and pesticides, no irrigation and no use of chemical products. The soils are worked often and weeds controlled by inviting herds of sheep into the vineyards. Respect for nature is a key idea at Pusole.

As Cannonau is a rather vigorous grape variety in terms of fruit production, the grapes are thinned in pre-summer to leave approximately 1-1½ kilos of grapes per plant. In the cellars the aim is to preserve the true character of the wines as shaped by the soil and the vintage. Only indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation, and temperatures are controlled exclusively by airing the must. The ultimate aim at Pusole is to develop single vineyard expressions of Cannonau, reflecting the diversity of each different parcel of vines, including one tiny parcel of vines more than eighty years old.
