Further Details

Pinot Noir is tricky to grow and vinify, and surprisingly tricky to sell considering it yields some of the world's most sought-after and costly wines, with supple, silky texture and exquisite, varied scents and flavours.

That said, as soon as we tasted it, we had no hesitation in buying all we could of this lovely, persuasive wine from the Loire Valley estate of Domaine Guy Allion.

Despite a relatively modest 12% alcohol, Cédric Allion's 'Les Parcs' is better than many, if not most, of the basic red Burgundies we have tried. It has an attractive crimson-purple colour in the glass, and its aromas of red and black fruits are very inviting: you'll find strawberry richness, some currant edge, and the fresh perfume of raspberries too. Delicious, mouth-filling flavours correspond to that fruit complexity on the nose, but there are hints of liquorice and darker notes just below the surface, giving an ample, gently spicy finish.

This would make a great match for poultry, game, and red meats as well, or a lovely treat with some not-too-powerful cheeses.
