Curated by Brian Mac Domhnaill.

In Autumn 2026 Lavit Gallery continues its new group exhibition format focusing on a selection of new work by artists working across the island of Ireland.

Lavit Gallery is very loyal to its Cork artists, but having a national reach is also important so that we can continue to stimulate and inspire our audience and customers with a variety of talent.

Not all the featured artists are based in their native counties, or even their country, of origin; and that is another important part this exhibition model. The ‘new Irish’ part of the title also refers to the ideal of a less parochial and more fluid and multi-cultural Irish society that extends to our national identity. In a commercial context, creating a local market for new or unfamiliar art can be a challenge given the largely traditional, conservative and tribal nature of the Irish art market but it is important that all good work is given a platform and that we encourage tastes to broaden locally and nationally.

As a not-for-profit arts organisation and registered charity Cork Arts Society, trading as Lavit Gallery, greatly appreciates the support of our colleagues running sales-based galleries in Dublin. Included in this exhibition are artists represented by private commercial galleries.

Expressively scented Piedmont red with juicy black cherry, sweet blueberry, and dark chocolate notes. Well, yes—Grignolino d'Asti fits that description pretty well.

This is a local speciality of Piedmont that has been left in the shade in recent times by an international appetite for the region's bigger, darker wines, such as Barolo and Barbaresco, although it's said to be a favourite of Pope Francis—his father, Giovanni, made one of the most highly regarded Grignolinos in the Asti region.

For those who enjoy an authentic taste of something different, though, the Grignolino grape variety offers pale colour, bright blackcurrant and strawberry aromas, and a combination of high acidity and grippy tannins alongside generous juicy fruit.

Grignolino means 'pippy', and refers to the relatively high number of seeds in each grape. For the winemaker, the challenge is to express the variety's potential for delicate aromatics without including too much of the tannin stored in those pips.

Spicy and just about medium-bodied, the Pavias' Grignolino has appealing aromas of strawberries and redcurrants, with peppery herb notes. There's plenty of ripe fruit freshness in the mouth, and cleansing grip that makes this a really good lunchtime or light meal partner for creamy sauces, pasta with squash or pumpkin, and rabbit or duck dishes. Time will gradually subdue its arresting energy, but you should certainly try a bottle of this vigorous, appetizing wine in its high-voltage youth before making any cellaring decisions.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0463/2438/3912/files/agostino-pavia-grignolino-dasti-2025.jpg?v=1784204028
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0463/2438/3912/collections/Conor-Walton-2023-Butter-oil-on-linen-20-x-30cm-LR_148d197b-a57a-4fa2-a38d-e2c7deea724d.jpg?v=1787340142
