Further Details

There's no doubt that English sparkling wines now number among the very best in the world, and the story of success at Camel Valley, north of Bodmin in Cornwall, is a particularly eventful read. As with many of our overseas suppliers, other kinds of agriculture—in this case, sheep and cattle farming—preceded vines on the estate, and the founding winemaker—Bob Lindo—is passing on his enthusiasm and skill to a new generation: current winemaker Sam.

This blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with the adaptable and hardy Seyval grape is fruity, balanced and complex, and has found favour with critics, restaurateurs and royalty alike. There is evidence, in any case, to suggest that sparkling wines were being produced in England by the ‘Merret method’ some years before the French ‘discovery’ of the technique of secondary fermentation in the bottle. There's an article from champagne expert Tom Stevenson here (.pdf) if you'd like more detail.

A generous helping of the ‘Cornwall’ Brut mixed with Móinéir Irish Raspberry wine formed the ‘Deoch of Cornwall’ blend served to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall on their visit to Cork's English Market in June 2018.

The ‘Cornwall’ Brut has been served at Rick Stein's restaurant in Padstow and also at Nathan Outlaw's two-Michelin-star restaurant.
